This course focuses on the techniques used for creating traditional woven ribbons, called “plukkeband,” where the pattern is lifted or picked up from colored yarns in the warp. A typical example of a this type of work are the ribbons used in the national costume for West Telemark in Norway. The weaving technique allows for great freedom in regards to patterns and motifs. During the course you will be exposed to a variety of tools and equipment that can be used for ribbon weaving. You should bring your own equipment including the fixed heddle loom with at least 9 columns, a wooden knife to pick up the patterns, and a belt to fasten your loom around your waist. The teacher will have patterns and yarn and can lend out various weaving tools. Fees: Course: 3950 NOK. Materials: ca. 300 NOK. Room and board for three days: 3150 NOK.
